![]() A range of different engines are available, starting with the 3.2-liter V6 offered in the front-wheel drive A6 sedan, making 255 horsepower and achieving an estimated 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The big news this year is the new 3.0T supercharged V6, which makes 300 horsepower and is available in both A6 sedan and Avant wagon configurations. It utilizes direct injection as well as a roots-style supercharger with two contra-rotating four-vane shafts, delivering a maximum boost of 11.5 psi through twin water-to-air intercoolers. The 4.2-liter 350-hp V8 also returns as an option on the sedan, and the S6 again comes with the a version of the 5.2-liter V10 used in the Lamborghini Gallardo, which makes 435 horsepower. The 3.2-liter V6 comes with Audi's front-wheel drive system, known as FrontTrack, as well as Audi's Multitronic electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission. The 3.0-liter V6 and 4.2-liter V8 in the A6 and the 5.2-liter V10 in the S6 come standard with a Tiptronic manually-controllable six-speed automatic and the legendary Quattro all-wheel drive system, and a Dynamic Shift Program offers over 200 different shift programs to suit a wide variety of drivers. Quattro has been reworked slightly for 2009, having been adjusted to send 60% of engine torque to the rear wheels and 40% to the front. European models are again offered with Audi's air suspension system, but that feature has been dropped in U.S.-delivery models for 2009, replaced by larger-diameter shocks and revised spring rates to help smooth out ride quality over a variety of surfaces. Both a 4-door sedan and a wagon are offered, both offering comfortable seating for five, but the wagon adds excellent versatility as well, offering 33.9 cubic feet of cargo space. While the sedan gets updated rear styling, the Avant wagon is visually nearly the same in the rear as it was in 2008. Inside, the A6 gets the third generation of Audi's Multi Media Interface system (MMI), which now features only two control units as compared to last year's five. The graphics have been updated as well, with a more sophisticated look and greater contrast, and a new joystick on top of the controller knob allows for faster navigation through the system. A new lane assist feature is also available, which monitors the vehicle's position in its lane and alerts the driver through steering wheel vibrations if the vehicle comes close to running off the road. Also optional is a blind spot warning indicator, which flashes an amber light in the side mirror when another car has pulled alongside. For 2009, Audi's A6 sees some minor styling updates, including a redesigned grille, new headlamps with optional LED daytime running lights, large partially functional air intakes in the front bumper. In the rear, a new trunklid and spoiler have been fitted, and wider more angular LED taillamps are also utilized. A rear diffuser has also been mounted below the rear bumper. The S6 gets a number of unique styling touches, including LED running lights mounted lower in the front bumper than those offered in the A6. A new 3.0-liter supercharged 300-hp V6 engine has been added to the A6 line up, known as the 3.0T Quattro, and can be had in either a sedan or wagon. Inside sees new materials, more chrome accents, and a new Multi Media Interface system (MMI). Navigation, keyless entry, and remote start are available, while Audi's air-suspension system has been discontinued. A lane-assist feature is also available. Distinctive styling, top-notch interior comfort, powerful and efficient supercharged V6, available Quattro all-wheel drive.
